About the training
A reach truck extends its mast forward to pick up and place a load, then retracts it so the load sits within the truck's wheelbase. That is what lets it work in aisles a counterbalance truck cannot turn in and lift to racking heights a counterbalance cannot reach.
RTITB category D1 is the standard sit-on reach truck. D2 covers high-lift reach trucks and D3 the stand-on reach truck. The operating skills overlap, but the certificate is specific to the category, so we train and test on the type your operators use.

- Warehouse operators moving from counterbalance to reach trucks: conversion training, usually two days.
- New starters in racked warehouses: the novice course.
- Operators with a certificate due for renewal: a one-day refresher.
- Operators who have driven reach trucks for years without a recognised certificate: the experienced course.

reach truck training: questions we get asked
Is a reach truck licence different from a counterbalance licence?
Yes. RTITB certificates are issued per equipment category. A counterbalance certificate (B1 to B3) does not cover a reach truck (D1 to D3) and vice versa. An operator who holds one and needs the other takes a conversion course, which is shorter than starting from novice.
How long is reach truck training?
Typically five days for novices in a group of up to three, two days for conversion or experienced operators and one day for a refresher. Each course page shows the length for every level.
Can you train on our own reach trucks?
Yes. Our instructors travel nationwide and train on your machines in your warehouse, which means operators learn in the aisles and on the racking they will actually work with.
