About the training
An order picker raises the operator's platform with the forks, so individual items can be picked from racking without bringing whole pallets down. Working at height on a moving platform is what makes the training different from a counterbalance or reach truck course.
E1 covers low-level order pickers, where the platform rises a limited height. E2 covers high-level order pickers, which take the operator to the top of the racking and add harness use and working-at-height procedures to the course.

Questions we get asked
Does a reach truck licence cover an order picker?
No. Order pickers are their own RTITB categories, E1 and E2. A reach truck operator moving onto order pickers takes a conversion course, which is shorter than the novice course because the basic truck-handling skills carry across.
What is the difference between E1 and E2?
E1 is a low-level order picker, where the operator's platform rises a limited height. E2 is a high-level order picker that lifts the operator to the top of the racking; the course includes harness and lanyard use and working-at-height procedures.
How long does order picker training take?
Typically five days for novices, two days for experienced or conversion operators and one day for a refresher. The length for each level is shown on the course page.
