Smoking fish on Grimsby Docks since 1961
Alfred Enderby, founded in 1961, are multi-award-winning fish smokers based at the heart of Grimsby Docks. During the Cod Wars of the 1970s, when many businesses folded under the uncertainty in the UK fishing trade, Alfred Enderby thrived by experimenting with different species, and when supplies improved, George Enderby perfected the traditional smoking of salmon, which the company has done successfully ever since.
In 2009 their Grimsby Traditional Smoked Haddock was awarded Protected Geographical Indication status; they were runner-up for Best Individual Product at the 2014 Slow Food London Awards and Producer of the Year in the 2017 Lincolnshire Life Food and Drink Awards.
After a 42-year career Richard Enderby passed the baton to Patrick Salmon, who runs the business today with his wife Toni. The traditional kilns take longer than electric ones, and the result is smoked fish good enough for customers such as Marco Pierre White and Elizabeth Hurley.
A huge transformation
“It's a huge transformation for our company to have this truck. We have gone from lifting multiple 3 kg boxes at a time to load and unload the lorry, to being able to use the forklift; the guys love it.”
“One of the true delights of our business at BJB Lift Trucks is the opportunity to visit our customers and see how their passion results in a superb product for their own customers. Alfred Enderby is exactly that.”
We look forward to a long relationship between BJB Lift Trucks and Alfred Enderby. Their smoked fish is now available from their own online shop.
